Everything you need to know about setting up Proposa, getting your API keys, and writing your first winning proposal.

Installation

Proposa is currently available for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Brave browsers.

  1. Visit the Chrome Web Store page (Link coming soon).
  2. Click "Add to Chrome".
  3. Once installed, pin the Proposa icon to your browser toolbar for easy access.

First Time Configuration

When you click the Proposa extension icon for the first time, you will need to enter your license key.

  1. Click the Proposa icon in your toolbar.
  2. Click on the Settings (gear icon) tab.
  3. Paste the License Key you received in your email after purchase.
  4. Click "Activate".

Setting Up Your Context Profile

For Proposa to generate personalized cover letters, it needs to know who you are. The data stays on your device.

Why is this important?

Without profile data, the AI will generate generic proposals. With your data, it will reference your specific portfolio items ("I built a similar app for Client X...") which dramatically increases conversion rates.

  • Professional Title: e.g., "Senior React Developer"
  • Years of Experience: e.g., "7 years"
  • Key Skills: List your top 5-10 skills.
  • Portfolio/Case Studies: Paste links to your best work. The AI will intelligently pick the most relevant one for each job post.

How to get an OpenAI API Key

Recommended for the highest quality results (GPT-4o).

  1. Go to OpenAI API Keys.
  2. Log in or sign up.
  3. Click "Create new secret key".
  4. Name it "Proposa Extension".
  5. Copy the key (starts with sk-...) and paste it into Proposa settings.

Note: You must have a payment method attached to your OpenAI account for the API to work, even if you have ChatGPT Plus.

How to get an Anthropic (Claude) API Key

Best for natural, human-like writing tone.

  1. Go to Anthropic Console.
  2. Click "Get API Keys".
  3. Create a new key and copy it (starts with sk-ant-...).
  4. Paste into Proposa settings.

How to get a Google Gemini API Key

Great balance of speed and quality. Often has a free tier for low usage.

  1. Go to Google AI Studio.
  2. Click "Create API key".
  3. Copy the key and paste into Proposa settings.

How to get a Groq API Key

Incredibly fast generation speeds using open-source models (Llama 3, Mixtral).

  1. Go to Groq Console.
  2. Log in and click "Create API Key".
  3. Give it a name and click "Submit".
  4. Copy the generated key (starts with gsk_...) and paste it into Proposa settings.

How to get a DeepSeek API Key

Excellent cost-performance ratio and great at coding tasks.

  1. Go to DeepSeek Platform.
  2. Log in to your account.
  3. Navigate to the "API Keys" section in the menu.
  4. Click "Create new API Key".
  5. Copy the key and paste it into Proposa settings.
